So far, everything is working well. I removed the old Atwood 6-gallon water heater from my 1998 Georgie Boy RV and installed this new unit — the entire process took less than 30 minutes. I haven’t connected the interior controller yet.
The only issue I’ve encountered so far is that about once a day, the system throws a voltage error code and stops working until I power it off and back on. I’m not sure what’s causing it, as I’m using a 50-amp surge protector at the main box that keeps voltage stable. I’ll trace the wiring when I have time and provide an update once I identify the source.
I also ordered a 15x18 door to properly cover the opening. It hung slightly crooked, but looks great! We’ll see how the unit performs during the cold snaps here in Northwest Washington this winter — fingers
This unit fit perfectly into the existing opening of a ruptured Atwood G6A-8E heater in our 2003 Fleetwood Jamboree, 23 foot RV. My installation also required the 15x18 door which needs to be ordered separately. I was able to get one (1) 36", 3/8" yellow flexi gas line and two (2) 30", 1/2" 1/2" end water lines at local big box store. I also required one (1) compression type male/male coupler for the gas line. The lengths of the extension lines made it super easy to connect the new unit outside the hole, test it and then slide it into place. I took extra care bending the existing copper gas line into place to allow the new unit to slide back in. I used a break line bender tool to bend the old gas line where needed. I also securely fastened the old gas line so it would not rattle while driving. The previous water heater had 3 wires; Blue, Green, and Brown connecting to the RV via a quick connect harness which had red-blue, black and red-brown on the RV side. After review I learned blue wires are for the old control panel and not needed with the new unit because it has its own digital control panel. I still need to turn on/off the existing Water Heater switch within the RV's bank type control panel, to turn on/off the new unit, which is sort of an added bonus if you ask me. The new digital panel remembered to stay on when the power was/is restored to it. I mounted the new digital control unit under and to the left of the kitchen sink as that location provided easy and hidden access to run the new control cable from the new instant water heater. For the 12v power I re-used the quick harness, connecting the new units Black(DC +12) to the Brown( existing power from battery +) and new units White (DC -12) to the Green (existing ground). As I stated above, the Blue wire from the harness is no longer used and is capped off. The bottom edge of the existing hole in the RV exterior wall is raised above the floor in the cavity area. I installed a 1 inch spacer pad under the new unit to bring up the floor level to the level of the bottom edge of the cut out, providing a flat level surface for the new unit to sit on. I have a gas sniffer detector and verified no leaks. I took my time and it worked as designed on my first test. Time will tell how it does on the road but it sure heated water fast. This cost is much less than other similar instant water heaters. The digital panel is super easy to use providing great control. This seems like a great value for the price and thus far seemingly a very quality product.
We found out 1 week before a two week fall camping trip in the North that our water heater ruptured in the camper. Received this quickly and was easy to install. I think it took my husband less than an hour. We love that we can control the temp with the wireless screen.
Works really well, easy to install, the only problem I had was water was dripping out of the pressure relief valve, come to find out my water pressure was too much for it, it likes under 50psi, love the mixer it has built in, spins as water comes through.
Hillhub tankless water heaters are the best! Mine installed easily and when I had a question about the controller the customer service took great care of me. I would recommend this product to anyone.
